Madison County Sheriff Todd Hood is running for lieutenant governor alongside Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman in New York’s Nov. 3 election.
The state’s amended certification lists their ticket on the Republican, Conservative and Vote Affordable lines. Gov. Kathy Hochul and Adrienne Adams are listed on the Democratic and Working Families lines.
Governor and lieutenant governor are elected together. Hood’s candidacy is part of the Blakeman ticket rather than a separate contest against another lieutenant-governor candidate.
Law-enforcement experience
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office biography says Hood began serving as sheriff in 2018. His earlier career included police work in Syracuse and investigative work in Onondaga County.
Hood graduated from Oneida High School in 1987 and earned a sociology degree from Springfield College, according to the county. He completed police-academy training in 1991.
The county describes earlier work in corrections, park policing and the Clinton-Kirkland Police Department before his Syracuse career. His biography presents that law-enforcement background as the principal focus of his public service.
