Emily Borell took her seat on the Rye City School District Board of Education on Wednesday, July 15, replacing Tom Stein and completing the seven-member board that will oversee Rye schools through the 2026-27 year.

The board held its annual reorganization meeting Wednesday evening, followed immediately by a regular session. Official minutes from both meetings have not yet been posted to the district's BoardDocs page; they are expected by Friday, July 18.

Borell and incumbent Shaun Kloepfer won unopposed elections on Tuesday, May 19, the same night voters approved the district's approximately $116 million budget by a margin of 429-108. The Rye Record reported the results that evening.

Borell fills the seat vacated by Stein, who was acknowledged at the board's June 16 meeting after serving two terms. Board President Jane Anderson and Superintendent Dr. Patricia Murray both presented Stein with tokens of appreciation at that meeting.

Borell had already been participating in board business before her formal swearing-in. She attended the Monday, June 22 planning session as "board member-elect" alongside Anderson, Jennifer Boyle, Kloepfer, Matthew Schibanoff, and Valerie Lapham.

At the June 16 meeting, Schibanoff nominated Anderson to continue as board president and Boyle as vice president. Both accepted, and no other names were put forward. Formal confirmation of those elections at the July 15 reorganization cannot be verified until the minutes are published.

If the nominations held, Anderson will lead the board into a year shaped by the voter-approved budget and the completion of bond-funded construction at two elementary schools. Dr. Murray reported at the May 5 board meeting that students began occupying Osborn School's new wing on Monday, April 27. The Midland School wing was in final stages as of that same May 5 meeting, with paving underway and a fire inspection scheduled. No update on Midland's status has been published since.

The district has not yet posted its fall meeting schedule. Families looking for the full reorganization minutes or the next regular board meeting date can check the district's BoardDocs page at ryeschools.org.
