Rye girls soccer will put its unbeaten season on the line Wednesday, Nov. 4 when the Garnets face Section 9 champion Mount Academy in a state regional semifinal at Nyack High School. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
A win sends Rye to the state quarterfinal, scheduled for Nov. 6 or Nov. 7, according to the Times Herald-Record's Section 9 tournament bracket.
The Garnets (18-0-2, 4-0 in the postseason) claimed their fourth consecutive Section 1 Class A championship on Sunday, Nov. 1, beating 10th-seeded Somers 2-0, according to MyRye.com.
Sophomore Harkin Brown scored both goals in the second half. Charlotte Keenan assisted on the second.
Rye has not allowed a postseason goal in two straight seasons. Julia Carballo, Hannah Jachman and Ella Fleckten anchored the back line against Somers.
Mount Academy won the Section 9 Class A title on Saturday, Oct. 31, rolling past top-seeded Our Lady of Lourdes 4-0 at Wallkill High School, the Daily Freeman reported.
Sophiat Hassan led the Eagles with two goals. Carina Page and Temitope Adejumo also scored.
Mount Academy entered the Section 9 tournament as the No. 2 seed with a 15-0 record and was ranked No. 6 in the state in Class A by the state sportswriters association as of Oct. 17.
The matchup pits two unbeaten teams and two shutout defenses. Rye is the defending state champion after beating Aquinas Institute 4-0 in the 2025 Class A final at Cortland High School, as lohud reported.
Brown, then a freshman, scored in that title game and was named Most Outstanding Player.
Head coach Rich Savage, in his 34th season leading the Garnets, laid out his step-by-step approach in a Rye Record preview published in September.
"We want to win our league first," Savage said. "If that happens, we go on to the section. If we win that, then we move on to the regional title. One practice and one game at a time."
Rye checked off the league and the section. The regional is next, Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Nyack.
