Five Rye High School students perform Saturday, Oct. 24, in the Westchester Area All-State ensembles at New Rochelle High School.
The annual festival, organized by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) and the Westchester County School Music Association (WCSMA), draws student musicians from schools across Westchester County.
Seniors Philip Karajannis, Thomas Chen and Cole Pagen and juniors Dario Abbate and Diego Huyhua earned spots in the festival, the Rye Record reported.
Three of the five landed in the string orchestra: Karajannis and Abbate, both violinists, and Chen, a cellist.
Huyhua, a violist, was selected for the symphony orchestra. Pagen, a tuba player, was picked for the concert band.
Four of the students study under Rye High School music teacher Lizbeth Burrow: Karajannis, Chen, Abbate and Huyhua.
Pagen is a student of music teacher Anthony Abate.
The group prepared through two Wednesday evening rehearsals leading up to Saturday's concerts, according to the Rye Record.
The WCSMA schedule lists the orchestra concert at 12:30 p.m. in the Whitney M. Young Jr. Auditorium at New Rochelle High School, 265 Clove Road. The band concert follows at 4 p.m. A chorus concert closes the day at 8 p.m.
Tickets for the band concert are available through SimpleTix.
