Del Shores' dark comedy "Sordid Lives" opens Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Harrison Players' 210 Halstead Ave. theater for a four-performance run.

Director Anthony Valbiro is leading the production, which runs through Sunday, Oct. 25. Evening shows begin at 8 p.m. Oct. 22, 23 and 24. Matinees start at 2 p.m. Oct. 24 and 25.

"Sordid Lives is outrageous, funny and completely unapologetic, but underneath all of the laughs is a story about family, acceptance and the complicated ways we love one another," Valbiro said in a Patch listing for the show.

The play is set in the fictional small town of Winters, Texas, where a woman's death in a motel room sends her family into chaos. Shores built the script around a cast of 12 characters whose secrets, scandals and eccentricities collide in ways the Harrison Players describe as both hilarious and tender. The play's licensor, Concord Theatricals, calls it "a black comedy about white trash."

During its original Los Angeles run, "Sordid Lives" won 14 DramaLogue Awards, including Best Production, and earned more than 30 award nominations, according to Concord Theatricals. The show requires a cast of six women and six men.

Tickets are available through the Harrison Players' website. Prices were not listed on the group's site as of Oct. 7. For group ticket inquiries, residents can contact Jen Ricci at 914-714-4092 or [email protected].

The Harrison Players' next production after "Sordid Lives" is their annual one-night staging of "It's a Wonderful Life," scheduled for Friday, Dec. 11, at 7:30 p.m.
