Playland Park will become a place of celebration, connection and unlimited fun on Wednesday, July 15, as Westchester County hosts its annual Day at Playland for People with Disabilities.

The event invites individuals with disabilities, along with their families and caregivers, to enjoy unlimited rides, attractions and activities at the historic Rye amusement park while celebrating Disability Pride Month and the upcoming 36th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

The day isn't just about rides.

At 11:30 a.m., county leaders will recognize three champions of accessibility during a special awards ceremony: the Hearing Loss Association of America – Westchester/Rockland Chapter, longtime sign language interpreter Jody Prysock, and Summit Health WestMed Medical Group.

Prysock, a Westchester resident with more than 35 years of experience, has helped improve communication access for Deaf and hard-of-hearing patients in hospitals across the region through her consulting, training and advocacy.

County Executive Ken Jenkins said the annual event reflects Westchester's commitment to making recreation and public spaces welcoming to everyone.

"Our annual Day at Playland for People with Disabilities is just one example of the many ways we celebrate inclusion, while ensuring all families can enjoy everything that our County has to offer," Jenkins said.

The celebration comes as Playland continues its summer season under county management, with more rides reopening throughout the month.

Families interested in attending must register in advance through the Westchester County Office for People with Disabilities. The awards ceremony and county press conference will also be streamed live on the county's Facebook page for those unable to attend in person.
