Fresh off leading Rye High School to a Section 1 championship, junior Derek Bisceglia has earned a spot on the 2026 lohud Section 1 boys golf all-star second team, capping another standout season for the Garnets.
The all-star team, selected by lohud's Mike Dougherty and released Tuesday, July 14, recognizes the top golfers in Section 1 based primarily on postseason performance.
Bisceglia has been at the center of Rye's surge. After qualifying for the state tournament as a sophomore in 2025, he returned this spring as one of the team's leaders, helping the Garnets capture the Section 1 team title and send three golfers to the state championship.
Head coach Pat Romano, now in his 30th season, credited Bisceglia with setting the tone.
"Derek does a great job of leading by example, and the younger kids respect and look up to him," Romano told MyRye.com before the season.
Rye entered the year with plenty of firepower after bringing back all six golfers who qualified for sectionals in 2025. Bisceglia, Ryan Mascali, Graham Erickson, Ryker Kevorkian, Lawton Wydra and Rocco DeFife turned that experience into a championship run, with Romano noting that any member of the lineup was capable of posting the low round on a given day.
The Garnets clinched the Section 1 title at Tamarack Country Club before advancing to the next stage at Centennial Golf Club, adding another trophy to one of the program's strongest stretches in recent memory.
The accolades didn't stop there. Rye was also named a finalist for the lohud Tom Whelan All-Sports Awards, recognition that highlighted the team's sectional championship and three state qualifiers.
With Bisceglia and much of the championship lineup returning next spring, the Garnets won't just be defending a title—they'll be the team everyone else is chasing.
