The Rye-Blind Brook-Rye Neck girls swim and dive team closed its regular season with a 77-103 loss to Nanuet on Friday, Oct. 23, finishing 2-5.

The defeat was RBBRN's third straight, but individual performances gave head coach Katie Konopka's squad reasons for optimism heading into the postseason. Lucie Megret and Zoe Lopez finished first and second in 1-meter diving, and Elena McGlynn won the 100 backstroke.

No other RBBRN swimmer placed first.

Several did post season-best times, according to MyRye.com. Charlotte Tait, Elena Lopez, Lucy Smith, Clare McGlynn and Kenzie Plauche all set personal records in their events.

Megret, a junior, has been a standout all season for Konopka. She locked up a berth in the NYSPHSAA state championship meet in 1-meter diving during an invitational at White Plains High School on Oct. 16. In coverage published that week, Konopka told MyRye.com that "Megret qualified for the NYSPHSAA state championship meet … in the 1M diving" after competing alongside Lopez at the 11-dive invitational. Megret had already qualified for sectionals earlier in the season.

McGlynn won the 100 backstroke in back-to-back meets, taking first against both Ardsley-Dobbs Ferry on Oct. 16 and Nanuet on Oct. 23.

The team now turns to postseason competition, where individual qualifiers who earned their spots across the seven-meet regular season will represent RBBRN. The league championship is set for Oct. 30-31. The sectional championship follows the next weekend, and the state meet runs Nov. 19-21 in Rochester.

Exact dates and a venue for the sectional championship have not been announced.
