Rye carries a two-game winning streak and a quarterback question into Friday's game at unbeaten Somers.

The 3-1 Garnets visit the 4-0 Tuskers on Friday, Oct. 2, at 6:30 p.m. at Somers High School. Both programs own recent state championships, and Rye leads the all-time series 12-11-0, according to MyRye.com.

Senior captain Charlie Brady's availability is uncertain. The starting quarterback suffered an apparent non-contact leg injury on the second play of Rye's 35-12 win at Mount Vernon on Sept. 25 and did not return, according to the Rye Record. Sophomore Johnny Shoemaker replaced him and led five scoring drives, throwing touchdown passes to Nick Holahan and Ryan Hess.

"We'll absolutely take this win tonight … and we'll do what we always do, we'll move forward – and get ready for our game at Somers next week," head coach Dino Garr said after the Sept. 25 win at Mount Vernon.

Brady's status for Friday is unclear.

Garr, in his 51st season at Rye, enters the game with more than 375 career wins, the most in New York high school history, according to the Rye Record. His four senior captains are Brady, Jagger Fenton, Benji Kaplan and Luke Denvir. All four started on last year's undefeated state championship team.

Fenton has been a standout through four games. He scored three touchdowns against Mount Vernon, including runs of 65 and 55 yards.

Somers presents a different challenge. The Tuskers have outscored opponents 130-26 through four games, including a 41-0 shutout of Peekskill on Sept. 25. They sit atop the Section 1 league standings at 2-0, according to MaxPreps. Somers won three consecutive NYSPHSAA Class A titles from 2022 through 2024 before Rye beat the Tuskers 40-17 in the 2025 Section 1 championship and won the state title.

MyRye.com contributor Steve Feeney, known as "The OG," predicts a tight Rye win. He writes that the "Tuskers lose their luster," calling it a game decided "by the width of an elephant's eyelash."

After the Somers game, Rye hosts Nyack on Friday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. The Rye-Harrison rivalry game is set for Saturday, Oct. 17, at 1:30 p.m. at Nugent Stadium.
