Charlotte Keenan scored twice in the second half to lead Rye to a 4-0 win at Eastchester on Thursday, Oct. 1, stretching the Garnets' unbeaten streak to 33 games.
The victory improved Rye to 7-0-2 and set up the biggest regular-season test of the Garnets' state title defense. No. 1 Byram Hills, 9-0 according to the Rye Record, visits Nugent Stadium at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4. Rye is ranked second in New York Class A.
The first half at Eastchester ended scoreless. Keenan, a senior captain committed to Notre Dame, broke through with two goals in a three-minute span early in the second half. Junior Hannah Jachman, committed to Princeton, added a penalty kick midway through the half. A fourth goal completed the scoring, though the Rye Record did not identify the scorer.
The 33-game unbeaten run stretches across two seasons, according to the Rye Record. It includes last year's 21-0-3 campaign, which ended with a Class A state championship and a No. 6 national ranking. Head coach Rich Savage is in his 34th season leading the program, which has won 10 consecutive league titles.
Keenan has been the offensive engine all fall. She scored a hat trick in a 5-0 win over Pelham on Sept. 28 and hit a game-winner with 20 seconds left against Shenendehowa in the Hall of Fame Tournament on Sept. 5. Jachman rescued a point at defending Class AA champion Albertus Magnus on Sept. 9, scoring a free-kick equalizer with 33 seconds remaining in a 2-2 draw.
"So many of us on this year's team have been playing for Savage since we were five or six," Keenan said in the Rye Record's Sept. 4 season preview. "Now, as seniors, it's our turn. We want to leave our mark, too."
Sunday's 4 p.m. kickoff at Nugent Stadium will be the first meeting this season between the top two Class A teams in the state.
