Sophomore striker Harkin Brown scored twice Saturday, Oct. 10, to lift Rye past previously unbeaten Pleasantville 2-0 at Nugent Stadium, extending the Garnets' unbeaten streak to 37 games.
Both goals came the same way. Brown intercepted weak exchanges between Pleasantville's goalkeeper and defenders, the Rye Record reported, racing into the penalty area to finish. Her first, midway through the opening half, was the first goal the Panthers had conceded in four games. Her second came seven minutes into the second half.
Rye (11-0-2) has now won seven straight.
Pleasantville (11-1), the top-ranked team in Class B, suffered its first loss of the season.
The Garnets controlled the game on both sides of the ball. Head coach Rich Savage, in his 34th season, told MyRye.com that Rye's "relentless pressure and hustle paid off" and credited defender Julia Carballo's commanding presence on the back line and junior midfielder Hannah Jachman's work through the center. Savage also noted the Pleasantville goalkeeper made several strong saves to keep the game close.
The 37-game unbeaten run dates to the 2024 season and spans a New York State Class A championship campaign. Rye went 21-0-3 in 2025, beating Aquinas 4-0 in the title game and earning a No. 6 national ranking from United Soccer Coaches, according to the Rye Record's Sept. 4 season preview. The Garnets have won 10 straight league titles.
The Oct. 10 result mirrored last year's Section 1 Class A championship, when Rye also beat Pleasantville 2-0 to claim the sectional crown. Because Rye competes in Class A and Pleasantville in Class B, the two teams will not meet again this season.
Brown, a First-Team All-State selection as a freshman in 2025, has been central to a Garnet attack that scored 32 goals during a six-game winning streak heading into the Oct. 10 match, according to MyRye.com's Oct. 8 recap. Jachman, also a 2025 First-Team All-State pick, is committed to Princeton. Carballo is one of five senior captains alongside Charlotte Keenan (Notre Dame commit), Shira Rand (Cornell), Blake Sasse (Colgate) and Eleanor Pandl (Franklin & Marshall).
A packed Nugent Stadium crowd watched the game. Young Rye Youth Soccer players joined the Garnets for player introductions and played on the field at halftime.
"We tell our kids every year that soccer doesn't have to be their favorite sport, but we want this to be their favorite season," Savage said in the Rye Record's September preview.
Three regular-season games remain. Rye visits Ursuline (2-8-2) on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
