Rye Middle School sixth graders spent 90 minutes working through hands-on challenges on Oct. 22 as part of Building Bridges, an annual program run by the school.

Students rotated through interactive stations covering four skills: organization, time management, staying focused and making good decisions, according to the Rye City School District. Each station asked them to think about the strategies they already use and spot areas where they struggle.

Sixth grade counselor Dina Farewell, who coordinated the program, said the point is to let students try different approaches.

"Most students need some help in trying out different strategies that may work for them," Farewell said. "Our goal with Building Bridges is to offer different ways of trying things, to see what resonates for each student and help one another through it."

Sixth grade teachers and support staff led the stations. After the rotations, students gathered for a Four Corners activity and gallery walk to reflect on what they had learned and consider how they can support classmates whose experiences may differ from their own.
