Rye has a new officer on patrol — and he is bringing years of community-policing experience from one of New York City’s busiest neighborhoods.
Ricard Dashi was sworn in Friday, July 10, at Rye City Hall as the newest member of the Rye Police Department. Dashi joins the department after serving with the NYPD, where he worked in roles focused on building relationships between officers and residents.
Dashi began his NYPD career in 2023 as a Quality of Life Officer in the 43rd Precinct in the Bronx, an area covering neighborhoods around the Westchester Avenue and Castle Hill Avenue corridors. He later joined Patrol Borough Bronx North’s Community Response Team, working with residents and neighborhood groups to address ongoing public-safety concerns.
Rye Patrol Commander Lt. Al Hein stood alongside Dashi during the swearing-in ceremony.
Before entering law enforcement, Dashi graduated from Dominican College in 2023 and played varsity soccer at Clarkstown South High School.
His public-service background extends beyond policing. Dashi is a New York State-certified EMT and has volunteered as a firefighter.
His experience in community response aligns with the approach Rye Police have emphasized through outreach programs and neighborhood engagement.
Hein, who administered Dashi’s oath, has been with the Rye Police Department since 2007. During his career, he has served as a Field Training Officer, Coffee with a Cop liaison and Adopt-a-School Officer at several local schools.
He was promoted to sergeant in 2017 before becoming a patrol lieutenant.
