Broadview at Purchase College residents pitched mentoring partnerships to freshmen at the campus Block Party on Thursday, Sept. 17.
Four residents staffed the Broadview table on a drizzly afternoon outside the Starbucks on the Purchase College campus, Patch reported.
Jamie Rosenfeld, a physician specializing in pediatrics who chairs Broadview's Intergenerational Activities and Civic Engagement Committee, handed out information alongside fellow residents David Kellogg, Ann Fox and Norma Litman. Dozens of freshmen attended the Block Party, a mini festival celebrating the first week of school.
It marked the first time the committee presented at Purchase College's freshman orientation.
Christopher Martin, a journalism freshman, said he had already heard about Broadview at orientation and through word of mouth. He said he welcomed the chance to learn from people with more life experience. Martin and fellow freshman Andrew Wachsmuth, who studies studio composition for film scoring, were among those who visited the table.
Purchase College President Michael Steiper stopped by and said the college was excited about the relationship with Broadview and was working on ways to extend it, according to Patch.
Steiper met with Broadview residents in November 2025 to discuss growing the partnership.
Kellogg, a retired journalist who edits Broadview's newsletter, said the connection benefits both sides. "Their eyes lit up when they heard about this group of accomplished people who are willing to help them," Kellogg said of the freshmen he spoke with at the Block Party.
He called it an opportunity students might not ordinarily get during college.
Broadview opened on the Purchase campus in 2023 and includes roughly 220 units.
The concept dates to 2002, when planners envisioned a senior community on the college grounds that would pair housing for Westchester County's growing senior population with intergenerational learning and mentoring.
Rosenfeld also belongs to a mentoring group that works with premed students.
No date has been announced for the committee's next public event with Purchase College students.
