Westchester County wants to know how older adults get to the doctor, the grocery store and everywhere in between. Rye, Harrison and Rye Brook seniors and caregivers have until Monday, Oct. 5, to weigh in.

The county's "Improving Transportation for the Aging Population" survey is open to anyone who drives, rides the bus, uses paratransit, gets lifts from family or walks. The anonymous, 38-question form is available at planning.westchestercountyny.gov/transportation-planning/overview.

"We are still early in this process. … The survey asks how people currently get around, where they need to go, what works well and where transportation challenges prevent them from making trips that they need or want to take," Jonathan Joseph, associate transportation planner for Westchester County, told Westfair Communications.

The deadline matters. Four county departments are collaborating on the effort: the Planning Department, the Department of Public Works and Transportation, the Department of Senior Programs and Services and the Office of the County Executive, according to a county press release. After the survey closes, the county plans to hold listening sessions and community conversations this fall to help identify improvements.

Local resources already in place

The survey comes as senior transportation options in the Rye area have shifted. RideConnect, which provided free volunteer rides for Westchester seniors, transitioned its services to TRA Group on Jan. 1, 2026. TRA can be reached at (914) 764-3533 or my-tra.org.

SPRYE, a membership-based nonprofit serving adults 55 and older in Port Chester, Harrison, Rye and Rye Brook, also offers rides and can be reached at (914) 481-5706.

Residents who cannot use fixed-route Bee-Line buses may qualify for the county's ParaTransit service, which provides curb-to-curb rides on an advanced reservation basis. Information is available at (914) 995-7272.
