One Westchester estate carries five addresses in three municipalities, and it belongs to one of Wall Street's most prominent retired executives.

John Thain, former CEO of the New York Stock Exchange and Merrill Lynch, owns a property at 350 Purchase St. that stretches across the City of Rye, the Village of Rye Brook and the Town of Harrison. Public records show the main building covers 13,172 square feet on a lot of about 438,000 square feet, or roughly 10 acres. The house was built in 1910.

Thain and his wife, Carmen, bought the home in 1995 for $3.7 million, the New York Post reported in November 2007. At the time, the Post described a 14-bedroom mansion with two swimming pools, a clay tennis court, several beehives and a river running through the backyard that fed a fish-stocked lake.

Thain was paying more than $150,000 a year in property taxes to Harrison and the City of Rye as of 2007. Current tax figures were not available.

A neighbor described the scale of the property to the Post in 2007: "The place is huge. I have seen him riding around the perimeter … it probably takes him 20 minutes to get from the front gate to the back."

MyRye.com profiled Thain on Sept. 19 as part of its AI-generated "RyeGPT People of Note" series. Federal election filings list a Rye address for Thain, and property records place him at the address since at least 2006.

Thain spent more than 20 years at Goldman Sachs, rising to president and co-chief operating officer.

He ran the NYSE from 2004 to 2007, then became CEO of Merrill Lynch and negotiated the firm's $50 billion sale to Bank of America, announced Sept. 15, 2008.

He left Merrill Lynch in early 2009 amid controversy over executive bonus payments. NPR reported that CIT Group hired him as chairman and CEO in February 2010. He retired from CIT Group in March 2016.

Thain has served on Uber's board of directors since September 2017. He and Carmen are members of the New York Botanical Garden Board of Managers, where they helped restore the 50-acre old-growth forest that bears the family name.

The property at 350 Purchase St. remains one of the few private estates in the area that spans three separate municipal boundaries.
