The Harrison Police Department is turning Library Park into a block party on Tuesday, August 4, with bounce houses, face painting, and a movie after dark for the town's annual National Night Out celebration.
The free event runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Harrison Library Park, located between South Frank E. Rodgers Boulevard and North Fifth Street along Harrison Avenue.
Families can expect food, snacks, Touch-A-Truck displays where kids can climb aboard police and emergency vehicles, activities for all ages, and a Movie in the Park screening as the evening winds down.
Local merchants have been invited to set up at the event, giving residents a chance to connect with Harrison businesses alongside the festivities.
National Night Out is a nationwide program launched in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch. The Harrison Police Department sponsors the local edition, using the evening to meet residents in a relaxed, family setting rather than only during emergencies.
Council meeting one block away
The Harrison Mayor and Council meeting begins at 6:15 p.m. the same evening at Harrison Town Hall, roughly one block from Library Park. According to YourHarrison.com, those meetings typically run under an hour, so residents can attend the public session and still catch most of the Night Out activities.
