The Rye-Blind Brook-Rye Neck girls swim and dive team fell 99-95 to Mahopac-Putnam Valley-Carmel on Friday, Sept. 25, its first loss of the season.

RBBRN's divers swept the top three spots in 1-meter diving. Lucie Megret, Claire Biddle and Zoe Lopez all finished ahead of every opposing diver to give the team an early cushion. Mahopac-Putnam Valley-Carmel pulled ahead in the swimming events to claim the four-point win.

"The team started the meet out strong, placing first through third in 1M diving," head coach Katie Konopka told MyRye.com. "Rye Neck 9th grader Miyu Akahira had two personal best time in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke."

Quinn Boyle was RBBRN's only individual swimming winner, taking first in the 50 freestyle. Clare McGlynn placed second in both the 200 individual medley and the 100 freestyle. Kalani Lee added runner-up finishes in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.

Akahira, a Rye Neck freshman, posted personal bests in both the 50 free and 100 breaststroke. Megret and Lopez had already qualified for the Section 1 championship meet after the team's season-opening 102-84 win over Byram Hills-Briarcliff-Pleasantville-Westlake-Valhalla on Sept. 18.

The loss dropped RBBRN to 1-1.

The team went 7-1 last season under Konopka, who is in her eighth year leading the program. She told MyRye.com on Sept. 22 that the team's goal is qualifying as many swimmers and divers as possible for the sectional and state championship meets.

RBBRN travels to Sarah Lawrence College for its next meet Wednesday, Sept. 30. The team returns home to Hommocks Pool in Mamaroneck for a Pink Out meet against John Jay Cross River-North Salem on Friday, Oct. 2.
