Youth singing groups in Rye, Harrison and Rye Brook have until Monday, Oct. 12, to enter NBC 4 New York's annual Star Choir contest for a chance to perform on NBC.
The winner will sing during the "Christmas in Rockefeller Center" broadcast on Wednesday, Dec. 2, the network's marquee holiday special.
The prize is real. NBC 4 New York (WNBC) and Telemundo 47 (WNJU) announced the contest's return for tri-state youth singing groups. The competition is open to groups in WNBC's viewing areas across New York, New Jersey, Fairfield County in Connecticut and Pike County in Pennsylvania.
To enter, groups need between 10 and 35 members, all aged 6 to 18. Each group must submit a video performance of a holiday-themed song, three minutes or shorter, according to Patch. Applications are available at nbcnewyork.com/choir or telemundo47.com/choir.
Groups chosen for a second round will need formal parental consent and must perform and submit a second video of "Up on the Housetop."
Eric Lerner, president and general manager of NBC 4 New York and Telemundo 47, called it "a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" for young singers and said past performers have drawn a national audience from Rockefeller Center.
The contest has spotlighted school and community ensembles across the region. The past five winners, from 2021 through 2025, came from schools in the Bronx, Queens, Hudson County, Neptune Township and Franklin Township. None came from Westchester County.
The Oct. 12 deadline gives local directors about three and a half weeks to record and submit a video.
