Rye's boys soccer team beat Cornwall Central 3-1 on Monday, Oct. 12, pushing its record to a perfect 14-0.

The Garnets traveled to Goshen High School for the annual Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation soccer event and came away with a non-league victory over a Class AA opponent. Rye, ranked No. 1 in the state Class A poll, has now allowed more than one goal just once all season while scoring two or more in 13 of 14 games.

Sophomore Connor Dehmer opened the scoring in the 10th minute after a broken play left a contested ball at his feet. It was Dehmer's fourth consecutive goal across two games, following his hat trick in a 3-1 win over Pelham on Saturday, Oct. 10.

Junior defender Cole Furber doubled the lead in the second half on a free kick just outside the box. According to the Rye Record's account, Alec Dodge Terra lined up as the first decoy and Pete Wilmot as the second before Furber hammered the strike. The ball caught both posts before ricocheting into the net.

Felix Wismer, assisted by Kasen Scarperi, added a third goal before Cornwall pulled one back late.

"This was a complete performance from the lads," head coach Jared Small told MyRye.com. "While not always beautiful, there is a lot to be proud about when you leave Orange County with a 3-1 win over a perennial Class AA state tournament qualifier."

Small also praised his goalkeepers. Will Alexander started and controlled the box before Trent Roseberry came on for the final 16 minutes. Roseberry has now made three appearances since Friday, Oct. 2.

Cornwall entered the week ranked No. 7 in the statewide Class AA poll, according to the New York State Sportswriters Association rankings published Oct. 8.

The Garnets face their stiffest remaining test on Wednesday, Oct. 14, when they visit Mahopac for a 5 p.m. kickoff. The Rye Record reported Mahopac's record at 11-1-1, calling them the top-ranked team in Class AA.
