A $333,575 outdoor fitness court could be coming to Harkness Park in Rye Brook, funded entirely through corporate sponsorships and village capital reserves with no tax increase required.
The Rye Brook Board of Trustees considered two resolutions at its June 23 meeting: one to accept the National Fitness Campaign's Fitness Court Studio at Harkness Park, and another to approve Contract #26-13 for the installation. Official minutes from that session have not been published, so the vote outcome remains unconfirmed. The project reappeared as old business on the Parks & Recreation Advisory Council's July 13 agenda.
How it would be paid for
The village resolution breaks the $333,575 budget into four components: $79,825 for sitework, a concrete pad, and pathway extension; $4,000 for concrete testing; $210,000 for NFC equipment, flooring, and a wall structure; and $39,750 for an authorized installer.
Revenue sources would cover the full amount. A $40,000 grant from the National Fitness Campaign and a $25,000 sponsorship from Sunrise Senior Living offset the outside costs. The village's FY2026-27 capital budget (Recreation Trust & Agency fund) would contribute $175,000, with another $77,750 from the capital reserve. A $15,825 budget transfer from sewer repairs closes the remaining gap.
The NFC quote issued to the village on March 26 totals $170,000 net after the $40,000 MVP Health Care grant is applied. That figure covers the Fitness Court equipment ($175,000) and a Studio Add-On ($35,000), minus the grant. The broader $333,575 includes sitework, testing, and installation labor beyond what NFC supplies.
What would get built
The Fitness Court is a free-to-use, circuit-style outdoor gym for adults and teens ages 14 and up, according to the National Fitness Campaign. It occupies a roughly 38-by-38-foot footprint, requires no electrical power, and carries no ongoing utility costs.
MVP Health Care serves as the project's New York State sponsor. Sunrise Senior Living's name would appear on the front wall of the court below MVP Health Care's branding as a "Featured Sponsor," according to the resolution. The village would be responsible for all on-site maintenance, safety, and security once the court is assembled.
The resolution ties the project to Rye Brook's Fitness Initiative Together (F.I.T.) campaign.
What's next
No groundbreaking or opening date has been announced. The NFC quote carried a June 24 expiration, one day after the Board of Trustees meeting, suggesting the contract timeline was tight. Under the purchase terms, the village must pay the full $170,000 equipment cost upon shipment and submit an assembly completion certificate within 15 days of installation.
The Board of Trustees' next scheduled meetings are July 14 and July 28.
