Seven volunteers who govern Rye's public schools will be formally recognized starting Monday, Oct. 12.

The Rye City School District is honoring its Board of Education during School Board Recognition Week, which runs Oct. 12 through Friday, Oct. 16. The annual observance is sponsored by the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA).

The district's announcement names all seven members of the 2026–27 board: President Jane Anderson, Vice President Jennifer Boyle and trustees Emily Borell, Callie Erickson, Shaun Kloepfer, Valerie Lapham and Matthew Schibanoff. None is paid for the role.

Anderson and Boyle were elected to their leadership posts unanimously at the board's reorganization meeting on Thursday, July 16, according to meeting minutes. Borell and Kloepfer won their trustee seats in the May 2026 school election, with Borell receiving 461 votes and Kloepfer 442, according to election results in the board's minutes. Voters at the same election approved the 2026–27 budget by 80%, with 429 yes votes and 108 no votes out of 537 ballots cast.

The board oversees five schools: Rye High School, Rye Middle School, Milton School, Midland School and Osborn School. The district serves about 2,800 students, according to federal enrollment data.

The district said trustees set policy, oversee the annual budget and support district leadership. Their work is guided by "The Rye Commitment," the district's framework for its vision for students. The district said its trustees devote significant time to attending meetings, reviewing district matters and listening to community members throughout the year.

All seven members were present at the board's most recent meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The board also met Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Rye Middle School.

School Board Recognition Week begins Monday, Oct. 12, at all five Rye City schools.
