Thousands of gently-used books will go on sale for as little as $1 at the Rye Free Reading Room's annual book sale on Saturday, Sept. 19, and Sunday, Sept. 20.
The sale features children's books at $1 each and teen and adult titles at $3. All proceeds benefit the library.
According to a library announcement by staff member Doreen Munsie, the sale takes place at 1061 Boston Post Rd. The library's event calendar lists Saturday hours as 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday hours as 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Residents should confirm Saturday's closing time with the library, as another listing shows 3 p.m. for both days.
Friends of the Library members get first dibs at an exclusive preview on Friday, Sept. 18. A start time has not been posted.
Donate before you shop
Residents looking to clear their shelves can drop off books starting Tuesday, Sept. 8, through Wednesday, Sept. 16. Donations go to the Meeting Room during regular library hours, with a limit of five boxes or bags per family. Staff cannot unload items from vehicles, and the library asks that donors not leave books in the return slot or by the doors.
The library accepts books in good condition across all ages and genres. It will not take water-damaged or moldy books, encyclopedias, Reader's Digest condensed editions, VCR or cassette tapes, DVDs, CDs, magazines, textbooks, or computer books more than five years old. Donations are tax deductible, and the library will provide an acknowledgment letter on request.
Catherine Riedel coordinates the sale and can answer questions at 914-231-3166 or [email protected].
