Rye will open new pickleball courts with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at Rye Recreation.

The ceremony at 281 Midland Ave. is open to the public. City officials will deliver brief remarks before the ribbon cutting, and attendees can stay for photographs at the new courts, according to a city press release.

The courts are the product of a renovation project the Rye City Council put in motion earlier this year.

At its April 15 meeting, the council's agenda included authorizing the city manager to execute an agreement with Sport Tech Acrylics for the court work, according to council records. The city has not disclosed the project's total cost or the number of courts being opened.

The city said the courts will give residents of all ages a place to play pickleball, which it called one of the nation's fastest-growing sports.

The Rye Record first reported the ribbon-cutting details on Monday, Sept. 21.
