The Rye City Planning Commission will get its first look Tuesday at a plan to carve the Tide Mill Yacht Basin property on Kirby Lane into two residential lots.
The subdivision proposal at 191 Kirby Lane is listed as an informal review on the commission's Sept. 22 agenda, meaning commissioners will discuss the concept but will not vote. The applicant is listed as Tide Mill Yacht Basin. No details about lot sizes or what homes are planned have been made public. Application materials are posted on the city's file-sharing site but require a login to view.
No vote is scheduled.
The waterfront property sits on Long Island Sound. A 2022 Patch article described the site as home to the historic Kirby Mill, then operating as a boatyard. The property's current use could not be confirmed from recent public records.
Chair Nick Everett and the commission will also hear five wetland permit applications at the 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, meeting in the Council Chambers of Rye City Hall, 1051 Boston Post Road, according to the agenda posted by MyRye.com.
Oakland Beach ADA upgrade
The Rye Town Park Commission is seeking a wetland permit to replace part of the stone dust promenade along Oakland Beach at 95 Dearborn Ave. with a 5-foot-wide ADA-compliant concrete sidewalk and French drain system. The project falls under a $650,896 bond the Rye Town Council approved June 11 for park, beach and waterfront improvements, including accessibility and drainage work.
Brevoort Lane dock replacement
Laurence and Cate Holt of 315 Brevoort Lane are asking to install a new pier, gangway, floating dock and seawall repairs on Long Island Sound. The project would replace a dock destroyed during Hurricane Sandy.
Other wetland permits
Three additional residential projects round out the agenda:
- 5 Stonycrest Road: Jack Kelleher and Shannon Crawford seek approval for a 4-foot-6-inch rear yard fence within the 100-foot wetland buffer of an off-site wetland.
- 261 Kirby Lane: Hugh and Mary Cullman want to install a 26-inch-high fieldstone garden wall, gate and raised stone wall within the tidal wetland buffer.
- 6 Woods Lane: Meghan Gulia is proposing a one-story side addition, second-floor addition and front porch addition within the wetland buffer of Beaver Swamp Brook.
