Rye climbed to third place on a national ranking of America's wealthiest suburbs, up from fifth a decade ago.

The study by GOBankingRates, a personal finance site, found Rye's average household income reached $428,806 in 2024. That figure was $266,038 in 2014, a gain of more than $162,000 over 10 years.

Average home values in Rye hit $2,155,295 as of January 2026, based on Zillow's Home Value Index.

Only Scarsdale and West University Place, Texas, ranked higher. Scarsdale claimed the top spot for the third consecutive year, with an average household income of $612,591, according to News 12 Westchester.

West University Place, outside Houston, came in second at $439,594.

Rye's home values, however, exceed both. Scarsdale's average home value was $1,464,571 and West University Place's was $1,638,701.

Rye's $2.1 million average stands out.

The study analyzed suburbs within metropolitan statistical areas of at least 5,000 households, then ranked the 50 with the highest average incomes using 2024 American Community Survey data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Eight of the top 10 wealthiest suburbs sit in three states: California, New York and Texas, according to a USA TODAY report by Daniel de Visé.

Harrison, which ranked 32nd in the 2016 version of the study with an average household income of $199,458, dropped out of the top 50 entirely in 2026.

Connecticut suburbs also lost ground. Darien and Westport held third and seventh places in 2016 but fell off the top 50 this year.

Greenwich slid from 23rd to 27th.

The ranking tracks with what national businesses see in Rye's market. Andrea Szot, marketing director for café chain Maman, told the Rye Record on Aug. 27 that the company had tracked Manhattan customers relocating to Rye over the past dozen years, especially during the pandemic.

"We've had Rye on our radar for a while now," Szot said at the time.

Maman opened its first Westchester location at 64 Purchase Street on July 23, drawing more than 400 customers on opening day.
