The Rye City School District Board of Education entered executive session at its first planning meeting of the 2026-27 school year on Thursday, July 16. No public discussion was recorded.

The closed-door session came the same evening the board held its reorganization meeting, formally seating new member Emily Borell. Borell won her seat in the May 19 election with 461 votes; incumbent Shaun Kloepfer was re-elected with 442 votes.

It marks the second consecutive planning session held entirely in executive session. On Monday, June 22, five board members voted unanimously to move behind closed doors and did not return to public session. Borell attended that meeting as a guest before being sworn in.

Officer elections and committee assignments from the July 16 reorganization have not been confirmed. Minutes from both meetings are expected on BoardDocs by approximately Monday, July 21.
