The Fourth of July fireworks over Rye’s waterfront may have been washed out by lightning and heavy rain, but Playland’s summer sky shows are just getting started.
The park’s popular Friday Night Fireworks series returns Friday, July 10, with weekly displays scheduled every Friday night through Sept. 4. Each show begins at 9 p.m., giving families nine more chances to catch the fireworks that thousands missed during the storm-shortened Independence Day celebration.
The July 4 show was canceled after thunderstorms rolled through Rye around 8 p.m., sending crowds gathered at Playland and Rye Town Park searching for shelter. No makeup date was announced.
Now, Playland is bringing back one of the region’s favorite summer traditions. Fireworks will launch from the end of the Playland pier and can be viewed from inside the park, the Playland Beach boardwalk, Rye Town Park, Tiki Beach Pier Restaurant, Barley Beach House, and the grassy area near the Playland parking entrance.
Admission to Playland is free. Ride-all-day wristbands cost $27, and parking is $15. Tickets and season passes are available through Playland’s website.
